Northville Township Essential Services Complex
PARTNERS in Architecture designed the Northville Township Essential Services Complex (ESC) as a centralized, future-ready campus that brings together police, fire, public works, and parks services in a single, highly coordinated facility. Located at 40911 Seven Mile Road, the 96,000 square-foot building consolidates essential municipal services to improve response times, operational efficiency, and interdepartmental collaboration.
The ESC houses the Northville Township Police Department headquarters, Fire Department Station 2, Public Works Department, and a Parks & Recreation trailhead serving Legacy Park. The campus approach allows departments that routinely work together to share resources, infrastructure, and support spaces while maintaining secure and clearly defined operational zones.
The Police and Fire facilities are designed to support modern public safety operations and long-term growth. Program elements include secure vehicle storage, expanded dispatch and communications areas, decontamination and equipment support spaces, individual dorm rooms for firefighters, and training areas that support daily readiness. Clean and dirty zoning strategies, durable finishes, and efficient circulation patterns help reduce cross-contamination while supporting fast response and shift turnover.
A shared fitness and wellness suite reinforces the Township’s commitment to first-responder health and readiness. The fitness room is designed as a collaborative space for fire, police, and staff members, supporting cross-department use while accommodating both tactical training and traditional cardio and strength equipment. Integrated locker rooms, showers, and durable flooring allow personnel to transition seamlessly between training and duty.
Operational support spaces throughout the complex are designed to maximize efficiency and uptime. Dedicated maintenance and equipment areas support inspection, cleaning, and repair of apparatus, tools, and breathing equipment, while strategically located support spaces allow quick access to vehicles and gear during emergency responses. The Public Works Department occupies a new headquarters designed to replace outdated facilities and better support the Township’s growing infrastructure needs.
The Parks & Recreation component includes a trailhead building for Legacy Park, providing public restrooms and water access that support both daily park users and community events. The public safety lobby also incorporates a medication drop-off, offering residents a safe and convenient service point.
Through thoughtful planning, shared spaces, and durable design strategies, the Northville Township Essential Services Complex strengthens public safety operations while creating a flexible civic asset that will serve the community for decades to come.
