Revolutionizing Public Safety: A New Center for Intake and Specialized Services in Macomb County

The Expansion and Renovation of the Macomb County Jail is a transformative initiative designed to modernize the existing facility and address the growing needs of the community. This ambitious project involves constructing a 162,000-square-foot, four-level addition on the northwest corner. The addition will significantly enhance the facility’s operational capabilities, providing specialized spaces to improve intake, housing, and treatment processes for those in custody.

The first floor of the new addition will serve as a central intake and booking center, streamlining the intake process and improving efficiency. The second and third floors are dedicated to specialty housing and treatment units, addressing the specific needs of individuals in custody requiring care for substance abuse, medical conditions, or mental health challenges. The fourth floor will add 108 beds for the general population, increasing the facility’s capacity to better serve the county’s needs.

In addition to the new construction, the project includes substantial renovations to the existing Macomb County Jail and Sheriff’s Office. This encompasses the demolition of outdated jail wings, phased reallocation of program functions within the facility, electronic security system upgrades, and other critical capital improvements.
