City of Rochester Fire Station

The Rochester Fire Station renovation demonstrates how creative design can transform an industrial facility into a community landmark while honoring the city's historic downtown character. Working within a modest $400,000 budget, PARTNERS led a comprehensive redesign that balanced aesthetic improvements with functional upgrades. The project's main challenge was redefining the existing industrial appearance through traditional architectural elements that would complement both the new addition and downtown Rochester's historic fabric.

The 4,200-square-foot, two-story addition significantly expanded the station's capabilities, incorporating essential elements like a firefighter's pole, fire watch tower, and modern living quarters. The design created new community connections through a pre-function lobby space, public meeting and training room, and accessible restrooms. Throughout the project, PARTNERS fostered a collaborative environment that enabled creative solutions despite tight budget constraints.

Every design decision required careful value analysis to maximize impact while controlling costs. The transformation went beyond aesthetic improvements to address code deficiencies and accessibility requirements, creating a more functional and welcoming facility. The project's success in blending historical character with modern functionality earned recognition as a 2015 'Keep Michigan Beautiful' Plaque Recipient. As Chief John Cieslik noted, the project built not just a great-looking building, but lasting relationships between all stakeholders.
