City of Romulus 34th District Court
The City of Romulus selected PARTNERS in Architecture to design and oversee the construction of a state-of-the-art courthouse that prioritizes efficiency, security, and accessibility. This modern facility serves as a critical civic hub, accommodating the Civil, Traffic, Criminal, and Probation departments while ensuring smooth operations for both visitors and staff.
A key focus of the design was optimizing detainee circulation. The courthouse features a secure, separate circulation route for detainees, controlled from the moment they arrive at the vehicular sally port. This dedicated pathway leads detainees through intake and general holding areas to courtroom holding spaces, minimizing interactions with public areas and ensuring safety and confidentiality.
For visitors, the design emphasizes simplicity and clarity. Upon entering the building, individuals pass through a controlled security screening process that directs them into a central lobby. From there, visitors can easily navigate to the transaction counter or any of the three primary courtrooms and magistrate spaces, which have been thoughtfully arranged to support the courthouse’s various departments.
The facility reflects a commitment to modern design and functionality, ensuring an efficient workflow for staff while creating an accessible and welcoming environment for the public. By addressing the unique demands of courthouse operations with innovative design solutions, the City of Romulus Courthouse stands as a vital civic resource, supporting the administration of justice and reinforcing the city’s dedication to community service.
